A marsupial mammal of the family Ploceidae. Its appearance resembles that of insectivorous moles, particularly the golden mole. It has a brood pouch with two nipples on its abdomen. The mouth of the pouch opens backwards. Like moles, its body is cylindrical. Its eyes and ears are degenerate, its limbs are short, and its front legs are large and shovel-shaped. It has a short tail. Its body color is usually pale yellow, but can range from almost white to deep orange. Its body length is 14.8-18 cm, tail length 2.1-2.6 cm, and weight 40-66 g. It lives in the arid regions of southern and central Australia, living alone on soft sandy ground.

有袋目フクロモグラ科の哺乳類。姿は食虫類のモグラ類，とくにキンモグラに似る。腹部に乳頭2個を備えた育児囊をもつ。育児囊の口は後方に開く。モグラ類同様，体は円筒型。目と耳介は退化し，四肢は短く，前足がシャベル状に大きく発達する。尾は短い。体色はふつう薄い黄色だが，ほとんど白色に近いものから濃いオレンジ色のものまである。体長14.8～18cm，尾長2.1～2.6cm，体重40～66g。オーストラリア南部と中央部の乾燥地帯に生息し，柔らかな砂地に単独ですむ。
