…While studying at Mazarin College, he also studied mathematics and astronomy, but in 1761 he transferred to the Faculty of Law at the University of Paris, where he qualified as a lawyer three years later, just like his father. However, while he was still a student at the Faculty of Law, he also attended chemistry lectures, assisted the geologist JE Guettard in his geological surveys, and began cooperating in the creation of a mineral map of France. In 1764, he conducted his first chemical research on gypsum, and also entered a competition to improve the lighting of the Paris cityscape, winning a gold medal (1766). …
