…Young people who led the student movement (SDS) from the late 1960s to the 1970s also joined the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and practiced ecological movements at the grassroots level in their respective regions, but in the late 1970s they left the SPD and formed part of the Green wing. The trajectory of Rudi Dutschke (1940-1979), a former SDS leader and one of the contributors to the founding of the Green Party, is symbolic of this.
