A village in Yamabe County, northeastern Nara Prefecture. Population 5,420 (1995). Located in the eastern part of the Yamato Plateau, it borders Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, across the Nabari River to the east, and the Nabari River flows north with its tributaries. In the west, the Nunome River, a tributary of the Kizu River, flows north. The northeastern part of the village was the site of the Daian-ji Temple and Todai-ji Temple forests during the Nara period. Currently, efforts are being made to attract plastic processing factories, but agriculture remains the mainstay of the village, with efforts being made to expand tea plantations in particular. Mount Kono (619m) in the west is famous for its azaleas, and the scenic beauty of Nabekura Valley is located on the northeastern slope. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
