Fukuoka-so

Japanese:
Fukuoka-so

A manor located in Kamitsumichi County, Bizen Province. It is the area currently centered on Fukuoka, Osafune Town, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture. Minamoto no Yoritomo held it as a land confiscated by the Taira Clan, but donated it to the Sutokuin Hokkedo Hall. Later, the main branch of the manor was owned by Saishokoin Temple, whose principal disciples were Takakurain and Kenshunmonin, and the lord of the manor was Ichijoin Sojobo. According to a notice of tax payment for the Saishokoin manor (Toji Hyakugo Monjo, box) from 1325 (Shochu 2), when a certain Ono Hoin took over temple affairs, the Yoshii village in the manor was divided and owned by Saishokoin, and the other parts were divided and owned by Ichijoin. The Yoshii village portion was under the control of the local lord Yoshii clan, and the tax was set at 40 kanmon, but at that time it was already reduced to just over 26 kanmon. It is assumed that Yoshii village was later donated to Toji, but its history after the Northern and Southern Courts period is unclear. During the Kamakura period, Fukuoka City (described in the Ippen Shonin Illustrated Biography) and Yoshii Village Yokaichi were opened within the manor, and tax was paid in cash from an early stage. The city is also famous as the home of Fukuoka swordsmiths.
