Salafiyah

A trend in modern Islamic reform thought. It idealizes the early period of Islam (Salafi), and aims to reform the current situation by restoring its principles and spirit. The Wahhabist movement is one example. There is a tendency to flexibly reinterpret Islam to fit reality, and a tendency toward revivalism that seeks to correct reality through Islam.
