A nobleman in the Heian period. His title was Hamuro Chunagon. He was the son of Councillor Tamefusa and the daughter of Minamoto no Yorikuni. Like his father, who played an active role as the innoshu of Gosanjo and Shirakawa, Akitaka became the innoshu of the retired Emperor Shirakawa and served in various roles including zuryo and benkan. In 1103 (Kōwa 5), Emperor Toba was born at Akitaka's Takakura Palace in Gojo, and his wife Etsuko became his wet nurse. In 1107 (Kasho 2), he held the three positions of ben, kurōdo, and emon no suke. In 1122 (Hōan 3), he became Councillor and Gon Chunagon. After Emperor Shirakawa suspended the regent Fujiwara Tadazane's private inspection in 1169, Akitaka's power was such that "the government of the country depends on this man's word" (Chuu-u-ki) and he was called the "regent of the night" (Imakagami). 平安時代の公卿。号は葉室中納言。参議為房と源頼国の娘の子。後三条・白河院司として活躍した父と同じく,白河上皇の院司となり受領・弁官などを歴任。康和5(1103)年顕隆の五条高倉第で鳥羽天皇が誕生し,妻悦子は乳母となった。嘉承2(1107)年弁・蔵人・衛門佐を兼ねる三事兼帯となる。保安3(1122)年参議,権中納言。保安1年に白河法皇が関白藤原忠実の内覧を停止したのち,顕隆の権勢は「天下の政,この人の一言に在り」(『中右記』)とされ,「夜の関白」(『今鏡』)と称されるほどであった。日記『顕隆卿記』がある。<参考文献>高群逸枝『平安鎌倉室町家族の研究』,河野房雄『平安末期政治史研究』
