Japanese: 福王流 - ふくおうりゅう

The name of a style of Noh theater supporting actors. The founder of the school was Fukuo Jinemon Moritada (1521-1606). He studied under Kanze Kojiro Motoyori, the master of the supporting actors of the Kanze troupe, and was summoned by Oda Nobunaga. Since then, he has been a supporting actor of the Kanze troupe for generations. Well-known among the successive generations are Moriyoshi II (Eiroku 3 (1560) – Kan'ei 2 (1625)) and Moriari 8 (Kanbun 3 (1663) – Genbun 3 (1738)), who composed new Noh plays; Morichika 5 (Keicho 14 (1609) – Enpo 1 (73)), who took the name Hattori Sōha in his later years and built the foundations of what would later become "Kyoto Kanze"; and Morikatsu 9 (Genroku 14 (1701) – Tenmei 5 (85)), who was also a painter and used the name Setsu. In 1898, the head of the school died out after the death of the 14th Shigejuro Moritetsu, but the art was passed down to Hanasakiemon and Nojima Shin in Tokyo, and Ezaki Kinjiro and Nakamura Yasaburo in Kyoto and Osaka. In 1938, Nakamura Yasaburo's son revived the school and took the stage name of Fukuo Mojuro (1909-1976), the 15th. The current head of the school is the 16th Mojuro (1943- ), the eldest son of the 15th. The lyrics, melody and style of singing are not much different from the shite style of the Kanze school.

能楽ワキ方の流儀名。流祖は福王神右衛門盛忠 (大永1〈1521〉～慶長 11〈1606〉) 。観世座ワキ方の棟梁観世小次郎元頼らに学び，織田信長に召出され，以後代々観世座付のワキ方となる。歴代では，謡曲を新作した2世盛義 (永禄3〈1560〉～寛永2〈1625〉) と8世盛有 (寛文3〈1663〉～元文3〈1738〉) ，晩年は服部宗巴と号し，のちの「京観世」の基礎を築いた5世盛親 (慶長 14〈1609〉～延宝1〈73〉) ，雪岑と号した画家でもある9世盛勝 (元禄 14〈1701〉～天明5〈85〉) が著名。 1898年，14世繁十郎盛哲没後は宗家断絶となったが，東京の花咲右衛門，野島信，京阪の江崎金治郎，中村弥三郎らが芸系を伝え，1938年中村弥三郎の子が再興して 15世福王茂十郎 (1909～76) を襲名。現宗家は 15世の長男，16世茂十郎 (1943～　) 。詞章，節付，謡い方は観世流シテ方と大差ない。
