A French river that runs through the Paris Basin. It originates on the Langres Plateau (the source is 471m above sea level) and flows northwest to empty into the English Channel at the Bay of the Seine. It is 776km long and has a drainage area of 77,800km2 . Paris originated on the Île de la Cité, which was a crossing point for the Seine. It connects the cities of Paris, Rouen, and Le Havre, and is called the artery of France. Its gentle slope and abundant water volume make it extremely convenient for boat transport, and it was opened as an important waterway early on. It is connected by many canals to neighboring rivers such as the Loire and the Meuse (Meuse). Ocean-going ships sail to Rouen. Its main tributaries are the Marne, the Oise, and the Yonne. The banks of the Seine in Paris were registered as a World Heritage Site in 1991. → Related articles Paris | Banks of the Seine in Paris | France Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
