Analects of Confucius - Rongocho

Japanese: 論語徴 - ろんごちょう

A commentary on the Analects written by Ogyu Sorai (1666-1728). Ten volumes. The title comes from the fact that it is based on ancient sayings, and the book presents distinctive interpretations that follow Sorai's method of studying ancient literature. Opposing Zhu Xi (the son) and Ito Jinsai, he viewed the Analects as a collection of occasional comments, not as a written work, and instead of viewing it as absolute, he took an objective position in linguistic interpretation while explaining his own ideas. Although some of the interpretations are overly eccentric at times, the book is quoted in China as one of the best of the many commentaries.

荻生徂徠(1666‐1728)の著した《論語》の注釈書。10巻。〈古言に徴した〉ことから書名が出ており，徂徠の古文辞学の方法に従った特色のある解釈が示される。朱熹(子)や伊藤仁斎に反対して《論語》を時にふれての発言集で著作ではないと見，それを絶対視する立場を離れて客観的な言語解釈の立場をとりつつ自らの思想を説いた。時に奇矯に過ぎる解釈もあるが，多くの注の中でも優れたものとして，中国でも引用されている。
