Japanese: 深谷[市] - ふかや

A city in northern Saitama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. The northern half is alluvial lowland on the south bank of the Tone River, and the southern half is alluvial fan and plateau along the Arakawa River. The city center developed as a post town and market town on the Nakasendo road. It is served by the Takasaki Line, Chichibu Railway, and Kan'etsu Expressway. It ranks first in the prefecture in terms of gross agricultural production, and in addition to its specialty Fukaya leeks, cucumbers, spinach, and flowers are also cultivated. Local industries include roofing tiles and clay pipes, and since the construction of an industrial park, electrical equipment, metals, food, and other industries have flourished. There are many ruins from the Jomon and Yayoi periods on the plateau. In January 2006, Hanazono Town, Kawamoto Town, and Okabe Town in Osato County were incorporated. ^{138.37 km2} . 144,618 people (2010).

埼玉県北部の市。1955年市制。北半は利根川南岸の沖積低地，南半は荒川沿いの扇状地や台地。中心市街は中山道の宿場町，市場町として発達。高崎線，秩父鉄道，関越自動車道が通じる。県内での農業粗生産額は１位を占め，特産の深谷ネギのほかキュウリ，ホウレンソウ，花卉(かき)の栽培も盛んである。地場産業として瓦，土管があり，工業団地が造成されてからは電気機器，金属，食品などの工業が盛んである。台地上には縄文(じょうもん)，弥生(やよい)時代の遺跡が多い。2006年１月大里郡花園町，川本町，岡部町を編入。138.37km²。14万4618人（2010）。
