...It is also famous for its handicrafts such as silk, cotton, and wool hand-woven fabrics, knives, leather goods, and copperware. Its ancient name was Puruṣapura, and the name appears as the central city of the Gandhara region from the 8th century BC. During the reign of King Kanishka of the Kushan Empire in the 2nd century, it became the capital, and Gandharan art flourished.
