A perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family that grows in mountain grasslands. It has an upright rhizome with thick roots and clumps of basal leaves. The basal leaves are pinnately compound, with leaflets that are medium to deep lobed and notched. The base of the petiole spreads to form a leaf sheath. In spring, a flower stalk appears, with a single flower at the terminal end, below which a whorl of sessile stem leaves grows. This whorl of stem leaves is often called an involucre. The plant body is covered with long, soft white hairs. The flowers are bell-shaped and bloom facing downwards, with six sepals that do not open flat, white silky hairs on the outer surface, and dark reddish purple on the inner surface.
