Mount Gyokusen

Japanese: 玉泉山 - ぎょくせんざん

A mountain in the western suburbs of Beijing, China. The springs that flow from this mountain are so clear that they are called jade-like, which is the origin of the names Yuquan Lake and Yuquan Mountain. Emperor Qianlong praised it as the "number one spring in the world." It is the source of water for Lake Kunming in the Summer Palace (Wanshou Mountain), and the downstream part was called Jinshui River in the Yuan Dynasty, flowing into the Imperial River surrounding the Forbidden City. From the Jin Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, it was a waterway to Beijing and one of the sources of water for the city's citizens. A temporary palace was built on Yuquan Mountain in the Jin Dynasty, and Zhaohua Temple and Huayan Temple were built in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties. Chengxin Garden (later renamed Jingming Garden) was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (1662-1722), and it has been considered a beautiful place for imperial and aristocratic recreation.

中国，北京市の西郊にある山。この山に湧きでる泉は澄明で，玉のごとしと称せられ，玉泉池，玉泉山の名称の由来となった。乾隆帝は〈天下第一泉〉と称賛した。頤和（いわ）園(万寿山)の昆明湖の水源となっており，それより下流は，元代には金水河と呼ばれ，北京城内に入って紫禁城の周囲をめぐる御河に注いでいた。金代から清代まで，北京への水運路であるとともに，北京の民間用水の源の一つでもあった。玉泉山には金代に行宮（あんぐう）が建てられ，元･明代には昭化寺，華厳寺が建立され，清の康熙年間(1662‐1722)澄心園(のち静明園と改称)が作られるなど，帝王貴族の保養の勝地とされてきた。
