A former town in Takada County, northern Hiroshima Prefecture. The San'in Line and Chugoku Expressway run along the Gonokawa River, which runs along the northern border. The town is mainly involved in rice farming, dairy farming and poultry farming due to its high altitude. Forestry is also practiced. There is a reverse fault zone (a natural monument) in Funasa. In March 2004, it merged with the towns of Yoshida, Yachiyo, Midori, Koda and Mukaihara in Takada County to form Aki-Takata City. Area: 124.46 km2 . Population: 4,568 (2003).
