Uwajima prefecture

…After the Meiji Restoration and the return of the domains and people to the Emperor, the various domains reformed their domain systems, and the Matsuyama Domain established officials below the Grand Councilor, and organizations such as the Domain Administration Bureau, Accounting Bureau, and Civil Affairs Bureau in the domain office. After the abolition of the domains and establishment of prefectures in 1871, the four prefectures of Matsuyama, Imabari, Komatsu, and Saijo became Matsuyama Prefecture in November, and the four prefectures of Uwajima, Yoshida, Ozu, and Shintani became Uwajima Prefecture. From Ehime Prefecture

[History]
Ehime Prefecture was formerly the province of Iyo, and in the early modern period it was divided into eight domains, Uwajima, Yoshida, Ozu, Niiya, Matsuyama, Imabari, Saijo, and Komatsu, as well as the Tenryo (the Matsuyama Domain's custody). After the Meiji Restoration, the former Tenryo were incorporated into Kurashiki Prefecture and then Marugame Prefecture, and after the abolition of the domains and establishment of prefectures, the four prefectures of Uwajima, Yoshida, Ozu, and Niiya were merged into Uwajima Prefecture (later Kamiyama Prefecture), and the four prefectures of Matsuyama, Imabari, Saijo, and Komatsu and the Tenryo were merged into Matsuyama Prefecture (later Sekitetsu Prefecture). In 1873 (Meiji 6), the two merged to form Ehime Prefecture, with the prefectural office located in Matsuyama, but in 1876 it merged with Kagawa Prefecture, and in 1888 it was separated again to form the current prefectural boundaries.
