Kyoka poetry centered on the late Edo Tenmei period (1781-89). This period marks the golden age of kyoka history. Edo kyoka was pioneered by early poets such as Nakarai Bokuyo and Mitoku, but these were sporadic. The core of kyoka was in the Kamigata area, with Teitoku, Seihakuan Kofu, Toyozobo Shinkai, Nagata Teiryu, Ritsukatei Bokutan, Kontonken Kunimaru, and Ippontei Fuyouka. However, during the Meiwa period (1764-72), a fresh movement arose in a corner of Edo's Yamanote district. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
