Ulsan Fortress Site

...A city on the Sea of ​​Japan coast of South Gyeongsang Province, Korea. Population: 969,196 (1995). Designated a metropolitan city in 1997. Located on the alluvial plain formed by the Taehwa River, it was a farming and fishing village with rice as its main agricultural practice and fishing based in the port of Hoeju in Ulsan Bay. However, the Park Chung-hee administration that came to power in 1961 built an industrial complex here as a model for the industrialization of Korea, and the region's appearance changed dramatically. The existence of a good natural harbor, the ability to secure a large site relatively cheaply, and the fact that it is an hour's drive from Busan were the main reasons for its location.
