[Died] November 6, 1884. British economist and politician. He became a professor at Cambridge University in 1863, a member of the House of Commons for the Liberal Party in 1865, and Minister of Communications in the Gladstone Cabinet in 1880. He established the parcel post system (1882). His main work, "A Manual of Political Economy" (63), was a popular commentary on J.S. Mill's "Principles of Economics," and gained a considerable readership until the new economics of the marginal revolution became widespread. His wife, M. Fawcett, who helped him with the writing of this book, also wrote an introductory book on economics, "Political Economy for Beginners" (70). His other works include "The Economic Position of British Labourer" (65) and "Pauperism, Its Causes and Remedies" (71).

[Died] August 5, 1929, London. A leader in the British women's suffrage movement. Wife of Henry Fawcett. After her marriage in 1867, she became involved in the women's suffrage movement, and in 1897 became president of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (NUWSS). Opposed the militant movement of Emmeline Pankhurst and others, and took a patriotic line. Opposed Irish Home Rule. During the South African War, as a government investigator, she sent a report on Boer camps for non-combatants. During World War I, the entire organization under Fawcett's leadership supported the British nation. After the Representation of the People Act of 1918 was passed, the organization became the National Union for Equal Citizenship. She retired in 1919. She was awarded the title of Dame.

イギリスの女性参政権運動の指導者。ヘンリー・フォーセットの夫人。1867年の結婚後，女性参政権運動に取り組み，1897年女性参政権協会全国同盟 NUWSSの会長。エメリン・パンクハーストらの戦闘的な運動には反対で，愛国的路線をとった。アイルランド自治に反対。南アフリカ戦争中，政府派遣の調査員としてボーア人の非戦闘員収容所に関するレポートを送った。第1次世界大戦中は，フォーセットの指導する組織全体がイギリス国家を支える姿勢をとった。1918年国民代表法が通過し，その組織が平等市民権全国連合になった 1919年に引退。デイムの称号を授与された。
