A city on the Parana River in the western part of Paraná State, southern Brazil, on the border with Paraguay and Argentina. Altitude 173m. Population 186,362 (1991). An international highway connecting Brazil and Paraguay runs from the port city of Paranagua on the Atlantic coast through Curitiba to this city (about 750km), then crosses the Bridge of Friendship to pass through Puerto Stroessner on the opposite bank and reaches Asuncion (about 340km). ブラジル南部,パラナ州西部のパラナ川河畔,パラグアイおよびアルゼンチンとの国境にある都市。標高173m。人口18万6362(1991)。ブラジルとパラグアイを結ぶ国際道路が,大西洋岸の港市パラナグアからクリティバを経て当市に達し(この間約750km),〈友情の橋〉で対岸のプエルト・ストロエスネル市を通り,アスンシオンに達する(この間約340km)。イグアス滝,イグアス国立公園をもつ観光都市で,アルゼンチン側のプエルト・イグアスへ船の便がある。
