An organization that inspects living environments and daily necessities such as drinking water, food, medicines, and cosmetics to ensure that they are effective and hygienically safe. In addition to the National Institute of Hygienic Sciences in Tokyo, the National Institute of Health and the health institutes of each prefecture and designated city (Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, etc.) also share this responsibility.
