Tonomine - Tonomine

A district of Sakurai City in the north-central part of Nara Prefecture. It occupies the southern slope of Mt. Goharetsusan (618m) in the central part of the Ryumon mountain range. On the mountainside is Tanzan Shrine, which enshrines Fujiwara Kamatari. Until the Edo period, it was known collectively as Tanomine-ji Temple, and was in the form of both Shinto and Buddhist deities, but after the Meiji Restoration, it became Tanzan Shrine. It is said that in the event of a major catastrophe in the country, Mt. Goharetsusan will rumble and the wooden statue of Kamatari will explode. The area around the shrine is known as a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves. Tanzan Shrine is a 25-minute bus ride from JR and Kintetsu Sakurai Station.

奈良県中北部、桜井市の一地区。竜門(りゅうもん)山地中央部の御破裂山(ごはれつさん)（618メートル）南斜面一帯の地。山腹に藤原鎌足(かまたり)を祀(まつ)る談山神社(たんざんじんじゃ)がある。江戸時代まで多武峰寺と総称され、神仏両様の形式であったが、明治維新後、談山神社となった。天下異変のとき御破裂山が鳴動し、鎌足の木像が破裂するといわれている。神社周辺は紅葉の名所として知られる。JRおよび近畿日本鉄道桜井駅から談山神社までバスで25分。
