[Operation facilities]
Facilities for aircraft operations at airports include runways, taxiways, parking areas, and control stations. At small airports, runways are simply flattened land with no paving, but most have a concrete base with an asphalt surface, and those for large aircraft are strong enough to withstand impact loads of several hundred tons. Runways vary in size from 1,000 to 1,500 meters long and 30 to 45 meters wide to 3,000 to 4,000 meters long and 60 to 90 meters wide.
