A city in northwestern Honduras, Central America. Population 40,000 (1986). Facing the Bay of Honduras. The former city of Puerto Caballos (built in 1525) was moved to its current location in 1869 due to the construction of the railway. It is the country's central port city, handling half of the country's trade. Various industries are also thriving. It is the outer port of San Pedro Sula, and a free zone was opened in 1978.
