[Resource Exploration]
Resource satellites use the principle that by taking various photographic images of different wavelengths of light from an artificial satellite, and comparing these with the characteristics of the distribution (spectrum) of wavelengths of light emitted by materials, the state of the Earth's surface can be known. Resource satellites were launched somewhat later than other practical satellites, with the United States launching Arts in 1972, followed by Landsat 2 in 1975, and the image data obtained is received by ground stations set up in each country and made available for local use. They are used in a wide range of important fields, such as monitoring agricultural crops and forest conditions, collecting geological, hydrological and oceanographic data, and creating maps, but there are still issues regarding the legality of obtaining information from the skies of other countries, which, along with the targets of broadcasting satellites, is one of the issues in space law.
