Puerto Barrios (English spelling)
A city in northeastern Guatemala, Central America. It was built as a port city on the Atlantic coast and named after President Barrios. Its population is 39,379 (1995). It is located 320 km northeast of the capital, Guatemala City, and is connected by rail, road, and air. Its importance as a port city has declined due to the construction of the nearby port of Santo Tomás de Castilla. [Yamazaki Kaoru]
