Heat sink - with burner

A device that discards excess heat. Usually, it refers to a device that discards heat into the air. Discarding heat is necessary to maintain the operating temperature of a machine or to operate a heat engine. For example, in electronic devices there are heat sinks that prevent transistors from becoming too hot, heat dissipation pipes in refrigerators that discard heat taken from the inside of the refrigerator, and radiators in internal combustion engines that discard heat from the cooling water to prevent the engine temperature from rising. Another example is a device that passes steam for indoor heating. A special example is a device that discards heat by radiation to cool a spacecraft in space.

余分の熱を捨てる装置。普通は空気中に熱を捨てるものをいう。機械の作動状態を適温に維持するためや、熱機関を作動させるためには熱を捨てる必要がある。たとえば電子機器ではトランジスタなどが高温になるのを防止する放熱板、冷蔵庫で庫内からとった熱を捨てる放熱パイプ、内燃機関でエンジンの温度上昇を防止するために冷却水の熱を捨てるラジエーターなどがある。また、室内の暖房に用いる蒸気を通す装置も放熱器である。特殊なものとしては、宇宙船を宇宙で冷却するために放射で熱を捨てる装置も放熱器である。
