Eliphas Levi

…In 1846, he returned to secular life and married, but was soon divorced. In 1851, he abandoned the “Dictionary of Christian Documents” that he had been working on for many years, and devoted himself to the study of magic. At the same time, he Hebrewized his name and changed it to Eliphas Levi as a sign of his devotion to Kabbalah. Following “The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic” (1855-56), he presented the results of his research in that field to the world one after another as “Series of Occult Philosophy”, including “History of Magic” (1860) and “The Key to the Great Mysteries” (1861). …
