Born: September 4, 1755 in Stockholm [Died] June 20, 1810, Stockholm. Swedish soldier and diplomat. Count. Son of F. Fersen. Served in the French army and was sent to America during the American War of Independence. He was close to Marie Antoinette and formed friendships with the French royal family. During the Revolution, he arranged for the royal family to escape (1791), and later participated in the formation of the counter-revolutionary coalition. After returning to Sweden, he was suspected of being responsible for the sudden death of Christian Augustus, the heir to the throne, and was attacked by a mob during the funeral and died. Fersen |
