…There are two types of majoritarian systems: those that require an absolute majority or a relative majority to win. In the UK and the US, the candidate who wins the relative majority is elected, but in France's National Assembly elections, an absolute majority is required to win in the first round of voting, and if there is no candidate who wins, a second round of voting (called ballotage) is held one week later, and this time the winner is decided by a relative majority.
