Pueblo Incident

On January 23, 1968, the American armed intelligence ship Pueblo was seized by a Korean People's Army Navy vessel off the coast of Wonsan Port in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and over 80 crew members were arrested and interrogated. This incident occurred during the height of the Vietnam War, and it was the catalyst for increased tensions throughout Asia and the Far East. There was criticism of the United States from international public opinion, including the atmosphere at the UN Security Council meeting where the incident was discussed, and the situation eventually returned to calm with the official apology from the United States on December 23 of the same year.

1968年1月23日，朝鮮民主主義人民共和国の元山港沖でアメリカの武装情報船プエブロ号が朝鮮人民軍海軍艦艇に拿捕（だほ）され，80余人の乗組員が逮捕され，取調べをうけた事件。ちょうどベトナム戦争のさなかであったため，これを契機にアジア，極東全域の緊張が激化した。この事件を討議した国連緊急安保理事会の空気をふくめて，アメリカに対する国際的世論の批判もあり，結局，同年12月23日，アメリカ側が公式に謝罪することにより，事態は平静にもどった。
