Fusei - Fusei

Japanese: フウセイ - ふうせい

A marine fish of the Sciaenidae family of the order Perciformes. It is distributed from the East China Sea to the South China Sea. It is rare in the waters near Japan, so no local name has been recorded. It is a large fish that reaches a total length of 60 cm, with a somewhat slender body. Its body color is a slightly grayish golden color, and its lips are reddish. Like other species of the Sciaenidae family, it has a large swim bladder with about 30 pairs of blind tubular projections. This swim bladder and the muscles attached to it enable it to make sounds. During the spawning season, they form large schools at the spawning grounds, making a loud "googoo" noise, so in Taiwan, it has been reported that people put their ears to the bottom of boats to search for fish.

スズキ目ニベ科の海産魚。東シナ海から南シナ海にかけて分布する。日本近海には少ないためか，これまで地方名は記録されていないようである。全長60cmに達する大型魚で，体はやや細長い。体色はやや灰色を帯びた黄金色で，口唇は紅色を帯びる。ニベ科の他種と同様，大きなうきぶくろをもち，これに約30対の盲管状突起が出ている。このうきぶくろとこれに付着する筋肉の働きで，音を発することができる。産卵期になると産卵場で大群を形成し，グーグーという大きな音を出すため，台湾では船底に耳をつけ，魚のいる場所をさがすことが報告されている。
