Ichinokurazawa

It is a valley on the eastern slope of Mt. Ichinokura (1,974 meters) north of Mt. Tanigawa, the main peak of the Mikuni Mountains on the border between Gunma and Niigata prefectures, and a branch valley on the right bank of the Yubiso River. It belongs to Minakami Town, Tone District, Gunma Prefecture. It refers to the rock wall part about 800 meters wide embraced by the East Ridge extending from Oki no Mimi at the summit of Mt. Tanigawa and the Ichinokura Ridge extending from Mt. Ichinokura. It is a steep rocky cliff along with Machigasawa and Yunosawa, but the most climbers of Mt. Ichinokura are climbing this valley. The weather here is prone to sudden changes, the snow melts slowly, and there are avalanches, heavy rains, and thick fog, making Ichinokurasawa the most difficult part of the climbing course of Mt. Tanigawa. Since the completion of the current JR Joetsu Line in 1931 (Showa 6) to 2001 (Heisei 13), 779 people have been lost in Mt. Tanigawa, with Ichinokurazawa being the most common. In 1967, the prefectural government enacted the Mt. Tanigawa Disaster Prevention Ordinance, which included this valley as a dangerous area.

群馬・新潟県境にある三国(みくに)山脈の主峰谷川岳の北の一ノ倉岳（1974メートル）の東側斜面の沢で、湯檜曽(ゆびそ)川右岸の一支谷。群馬県利根(とね)郡みなかみ町に属する。谷川岳頂上のオキの耳から延びる東尾根(ひがしおね)と、一ノ倉岳から延びる一ノ倉尾根に抱かれた幅約800メートルに及ぶ岩壁の部分をいう。マチガ沢、幽ノ沢(ゆうのさわ)とともに険しい岩場の急崖(きゅうがい)であるが、谷川岳の沢登り、岩登りでは、この沢を登る一ノ倉岳への登山者がもっとも多い。ここは天気が激変しやすく、雪解けが遅く、雪崩(なだれ)や豪雨や濃霧があり、谷川岳の登山コースのうち、この一ノ倉沢がもっとも難所である。1931年（昭和6）現JR上越線全通以来2001年（平成13）までに谷川岳で779人の遭難者を出しているが、なかでも一ノ倉沢がもっとも多い。1967年県制定の谷川岳遭難防止条例でこの沢が危険指定地域に含まれた。
