Anemoscope; wind vane

Anemoscope; wind vane
An instrument for measuring wind direction. Before 1950, it was called a wind fletching. There are instruments that use an arrow fletching to mechanically record its position, instruments that convert the change in the position of the arrow fletching into a change in electrical resistance and record it with a recording ammeter, and instruments that have contacts at equal intervals according to the wind direction angle and record the wind direction by opening and closing the contacts. There are two-bladed and one-bladed arrow fletchings that are attached vertically, and are designed so that the center of gravity of the whole is above the support. In Japan, wind direction was initially measured with a wind fletching and wind speed with a Robinson anemometer, or visually when no anemometer was available, but after the Meteorological Observation Act was enacted in 1886 (Meiji 19), wind direction was measured with a wind fletching and wind speed was measured with a Robinson anemometer.
