Tuul ghol (English spelling)

Japanese: トラ[川]（英語表記）Tuul ghol

A river that flows through the northern part of the Mongolian Plateau. It originates in the Hentei Mountains, merges with the Kharuukhin Ghol River along the way, and flows into the Orkhon River. It is 819 km long, has a drainage area of about 53,000 km2, is 35-70 m wide, and is 0.8-3.5 m deep. The flow rate is about 25 m3 per second. It begins to freeze in late October, and is covered in ice for 138-164 days. The drainage basin is covered with good forest steppe and pure steppe, and has been the habitation of powerful nomadic tribes since ancient times. The current capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, is located on the north bank of this river.
