A idiophone used in Indonesian gamelan ensemble music. Thin bronze plates are hung horizontally on two strings, and a cylindrical resonator is set directly below each plate. The player strikes them lightly with two felted sticks in both hands to make them sound. The sound is small but relatively long-lasting, so it is difficult to mute it. The sound must be mute using the thumb, little finger, or wrist, so although the music heard is two parts, the actual performance feels like a four-part counterpoint. In large ensembles, it plays the role of providing ornamental notes to the main melody. The Gundel Wayang of the Serendro is used as an accompaniment to Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet theater) and as an ensemble form for the advanced pure music of Wayang Wong. In Java, there are two types: Balung (low pitch) and Panels (high pitch).

インドネシアのガムラン合奏音楽の体鳴楽器。薄い青銅板を2本の紐で水平に吊り並べ，それぞれの真下に円筒形の共鳴体を設定し，奏者は2本のフェルトつき桴 (ばち) を両手に持って軽く打って鳴らす。音量は小さいが比較的持続するので消音技法がむずかしい。親指，小指あるいは手首の近辺を使って消音しなければならないので，聞えてくる音楽は2声部ではあるが実際の演奏感覚は4声部対位法を奏しているのと同じ。大編成の合奏のなかでは主旋律に対して装飾音を与える役割を果す。スレンドロのグンデル・ワヤンは，ワヤン・クリ (影絵人形芝居) の伴奏として，また高度の純音楽ワヤン・ウォンのための合奏形態である。ジャワ島ではバルン (低音) とパネルス (高音) の2種がある。
