Confinement - feng-jin; fêng-chin

Confinement - feng-jin; fêng-chin
In China, the prohibition of entry into certain areas. In order to maintain public order, each dynasty in China legally prohibited the people from entering areas at risk of natural disasters, mountain gorges where ethnic minorities and Han people lived side by side, cemeteries, etc. Mountain gorge areas in particular were called forbidden mountains and often became hotbeds of rebellion. Rebellions by Deng Maoqi, Ye Zongliu, and Jingxiang in the Ming Dynasty all took place in forbidden mountain areas. During the Qing Dynasty, the Chinese were strictly prohibited from emigrating to Manchuria, the birthplace of the rebellion, but from the mid-Qing Dynasty onwards, the ban was no longer observed.
