Knights of the Garter

…the most representative British order. The Knights of the Garter are a collective term for the clothing and accessories required of members of the Order of the Garter, which consist of a garter worn below the left knee, a cloak, a necklace, and a star. The order was founded in 1348 by Edward III to be an example of chivalry and to emphasize the loyalty and service of members to the King.
