A general term for insects in the order Hymenoptera, family Pteromalidae. Small parasitic wasps with body lengths of 1 to 3 mm, many of which have a metallic luster such as blue, indigo, or gold. There are many species, and they parasitize almost all insects. Many species are known in Japan, including Pteromalus puparum (illustration), which parasitizes the pupae of cabbage white butterflies and swallowtail butterflies, Anisopteromalus calandrae , which parasitizes the larvae of rice weevils and azuki bean weevils, Dibrachys kojimae , which parasitizes the larvae of pine caterpillars, Halticoptera circulus , which parasitizes leafminers, Homoporus japonicus , which parasitizes the moth gall wasp that creates galls on moth bamboo, and Mormoniella vitripennis , which parasitizes the silkworm fly and flesh fly. 膜翅目コガネコバチ科Pteromalidaeの昆虫の総称。体長1~3mmの小さい寄生バチで,多くのものは青色,藍色,黄金色などの金属光沢をもっている。種類数が多く,ほとんどの昆虫に寄生する。モンシロチョウやアゲハチョウなどのさなぎに寄生するアオムシコバチPteromalus puparum(イラスト),コクゾウムシやアズキゾウムシなどの幼虫に寄生するゾウムシコガネコバチAnisopteromalus calandrae,マツケムシの幼虫に寄生するコジマコバチDibrachys kojimae,ハモグリバエに寄生するハムグリヤドリコバチHalticoptera circulus,モウソウダケに虫えいを作るモウソウタマコバチに寄生するモンコガネコバチHomoporus japonicus,カイコノウジバエやニクバエなどに寄生するキョウソヤドリコバチMormoniella vitripennisなど日本にも多くの種類が知られている。
