Fiscal policy

A policy that deals with economic problems such as inflation, unemployment, and the balance of payments by adjusting the level of fiscal activity. It is also called fiscal policy. Fiscal activity is closely related to macroeconomic variables such as the scale of activity in the entire economy and price trends. This fact has become widely recognized since the capitalist economy experienced the Great Depression of the 1930s and the emergence of Keynesian economics. This period marked the arrival of a situation in which full employment could no longer be maintained by leaving it to market mechanisms alone.

インフレーション，失業，対外収支などの経済問題が生じたときに，財政活動の水準の調整によって対処する政策。財政政策ともいう。財政活動は経済全体の活動規模や物価動向などのマクロの経済変量と密接に関連している。このことは，資本主義経済が1930年代の大不況を経験し，ケインズ経済学の登場以来大きく認識されるようになってきた。この時期を契機に，市場機構のみにまかせておいてはもはや完全雇用が維持できない事態が到来したのである。
