Retrograde amnesia

Japanese: 逆向健忘 - ぎゃっこうけんぼう（英語表記）retrograde amnesia

When amnesia (recollection deficit) occurs due to some kind of brain damage, it refers to the inability to remember events that occurred prior to the time the brain damage occurred. When consciousness was clear, the events would have been memorized normally, but the inability to recall due to brain damage is due to either the loss of memory traces or the inability to recall. The period during which amnesia reverses is often a few minutes to a few hours in traumatic cases, but in severe cases it can last for longer. The period of amnesia gradually shortens as you recover.

何かの脳障害で健忘(追想欠損)を生じる時に，脳障害の発生時点より以前の事柄にまで遡及して思い出すことができない場合をいう。意識が明瞭だった時点では，出来事は正常に記銘され記憶に残されたはずだが，脳障害により想起できないのは，記憶の痕跡が失われたか，想起することができないのかの理由による。健忘が逆向する期間は外傷性の時は数分から数時間くらいが多いが，重症ではさらに長期間にわたる。回復時にはしだいに健忘の期間が短縮する。
