The center of Buddhism in Taiwan Province, China. Located in Dashu Township, Kaohsiung County, Fo Guang Shan is the collective name for the temples on one mountain, including Lei Yin Temple and Shoushan Temple. Founded in 1967 by Ajari Xing Yun, then 46 years old, the temple has constructed a series of large temple buildings, including the Hall of Compassion for Ten Thousand Buddhas, and established the Eastern Buddhist Institute, the only training institution for monks and nuns in Taiwan. It has garnered support from the province and overseas Chinese, and has quickly become the center of the province's Buddhist world.
