A former town in Monbetsu County, northeastern Hokkaido. The main settlement is a farming village along the Ikutahara River, a tributary of the Yubetsu River, and the Sekihoku Main Line runs through it. The town produces mushrooms, potatoes, sugar beets, and wheat, and also engages in dairy farming. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Maruseppu Town, Shirataki Village, and Engaru Town in Monbetsu County. Area: 269.36 km2 . Population: 2,681 (2003). 北海道北東部，紋別郡の旧町。中心集落は湧別川の支流生田原川沿いにある農村で，石北本線が通じる。キノコ，ジャガイモ，テンサイ，麦類を産し，酪農も行う。2005年10月紋別郡丸瀬布町，白滝村と遠軽町へ編入。269.36km2。2681人（2003）。
