A former town in Monbetsu County, northeastern Hokkaido. The main settlement is a farming village along the Ikutahara River, a tributary of the Yubetsu River, and the Sekihoku Main Line runs through it. The town produces mushrooms, potatoes, sugar beets, and wheat, and also engages in dairy farming. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Maruseppu Town, Shirataki Village, and Engaru Town in Monbetsu County. Area: 269.36 km2 . Population: 2,681 (2003).
