1339‐93 Founder of the Hurūfī order, a mystical sect of Shiite sect. He is said to have developed an interpretation of the chivalry contained in mysticism and dreamed of establishing a state ruled by mystics. He is called Hurūfī because he gave a mystical interpretation to the letters of the Koran (hurūf) and claimed to be the incarnation of God. He opposed the rule of the Timurid dynasty and held the radical idea of realizing God's justice on earth by sword, so he was massacred by Timur's son Miran Shah.
