Japanese: 和魂 - にきたま

〘Noun〙 (Later called "Nigitama") A gentle and friendly deity. Nikimitama. ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 3.417 "The great emperor's kindred spirit (Nikitama) aheya, Toyokuni's mirror mountain is designated as his palace." [Additional notes] (1) "Niki" is the opposite of "ara" and is the same as "nikoko". The characters "wa" and "yowaka" are used to write it.
(2) In contrast to "nikko," "niki" often forms compound words related to spirits.

〘名〙 (後世は「にぎたま」とも) 温和な親しむべき神霊。にきみたま。※万葉（８Ｃ後）三・四一七「大君の親魄(にきたま)あへや豊国の鏡の山を宮と定むる」[補注](1)「にき」は「あら」の対で、「にこ」と同意。表記は、「和」「柔」が用いられる。
(2)「にこ」に対して「にき」は神霊に関する複合語を作ることが多い。
