[Colonies as Peripheries]
From an economic point of view, modern colonies are the "periphery" that was subordinately subsumed into the world capitalist world-system that began its formation after the end of the 15th century, and this subordinate character remains as a structural feature of the social economy of the periphery even after political independence. The world capitalist system from the so-called "geographical discoveries" to the Industrial Revolution was a transitional, uneven, and complex system in which the capitalist mode of production was emerging in its "center," Europe, while commodity production forms under unfree labor were observed on the periphery of the commercial network that was expanding worldwide.
