...hunter-gatherers who live in the far north from the Bering Strait region to Alaska, the Canadian Arctic coast, Labrador, and Greenland. The name comes from the Abnaki and Ojibwe words of the Algonquin Indians, which mean "people who eat raw meat." The Canadian Eskimos refer to themselves as "Inuit," which means "people," and this is the name they use officially today. In Alaska, the common name is Eskimo, and in Greenland, the common name is Kalaallit.
