[1] (Faust) A figure from 16th century German legend. He is a figure formed by combining various magical legends with Georg Faust, an alchemist who existed from the end of the 15th century to the 16th century. He made a pact with the devil and obtained luxury and pleasure through the power of magic, but it is said that he met a tragic end when the contract expired. It was collected at the end of the 16th century as "The Tale of Doctor Faustus," and first appeared in literature in "The Tragedy of Doctor Faustus" by the English playwright Marlowe. It later became the material for literary works by Goethe, Thomas Mann, and Valéry, and for musical works by Gounod, Berlioz, and Liszt. [2] (Original title Faust) A play. Written by Goethe. It consists of two parts, the first of which was published in 1808 and the second in 1832. It is based on the Faust legend. It is the author's masterpiece and is considered the greatest work of modern German literature. [3] (Original title: Faust) Opera. Composed by Gounod. Five acts. First performed in Paris in 1859.
