The wife of Marcus Aurelius. Daughter of Antoninus Pius and Faustina the Elder. She became Marcus' wife at her father's request. Later historical records say that she was immoral, took gladiator slaves as lovers, and caused her husband trouble by participating in conspiracies, but this is questionable. She accompanied her husband on his campaigns, and was known in Germania as the "mother of the military camp." She died in the East. In memory of her, Marcus established a new system of stipends for women, the Puellae Faustinianae. [Matsumoto Nobuo]

マルクス･アウレリウスの妃。アントニヌス･ピウスと大ファウスティナとの娘。父の意向でマルクスの妻となる。後世の史書には彼女は不身持ちで剣闘士奴隷などを愛人とし，陰謀に加担するなどして夫を悩ませたとあるが，事実かどうかは疑問。夫の遠征にも随行し，ゲルマニアでは〈軍営の母〉と称された。東方で没す。マルクスは彼女を記念して，新しく女子給費制puellae Faustinianaeを設けた。【松本宣郎】
