Magnetic relaxation

A phenomenon in which a time delay occurs before the magnetic moment system of a material reaches a certain thermal equilibrium state during magnetic resonance. Relaxation in the direction of the quantization axis of the magnetic moment is called longitudinal relaxation, and its characteristic time is the relaxation time of energy exchange between the spin system and the lattice system, and is expressed by the spin-lattice relaxation time. The transverse relaxation time in the direction perpendicular to the quantization axis is the relaxation time of energy exchange within the spin system, and is expressed by the spin-spin relaxation time. Magnetic relaxation is phenomenologically expressed by the Bloch equation. The relaxation time of magnetic relaxation is closely related to the line shape and line width of the magnetic resonance absorption. Measurement of relaxation time using the spin-echo method is widely used in physical properties research.
